FAQ

Just the FAQs. These are the most asked questions when I talk to people about my business, so I thought I would share them here.

How many LEGO bricks do you currently have?

I don't have an exact number yet because we have a lot of sets that we have not parted out, and other large bins that have not been counted. But I have at least 400,000 LEGO pieces, not counting my son's collection (which is quite large in itself) and are probably nearer to 1/2 million. We are constantly purchasing and sorting LEGO bricks.

Where do you purchase so many LEGO bricks?

I buy a lot directly from LEGO, either at their LEGO Shops or online. I also purchase LEGO sets on sale, and then sort them out into their individual pieces. Finally, I purchase from individuals who sell bulk quantities. All pieces are new.

What are the other challenges you have had in starting this business?

A big challenge is getting enough of each piece in each color to make all of the items I sell. I can't tell you how many times I have needed a particular piece and either did not have it or did not have it in the right color. Another challenge is storing all of the LEGO bricks so that I can easily get to them. A room in our house is almost completely filled with bins. An interesting challenge is keeping my son from taking all of my LEGO bricks and using them, although I like to see him so interested in building.

Do you use only LEGO parts?

Yes! I only use brand new LEGO pieces in my work. I have tried almost all of the competition, but nothing compares to LEGO brand products.

What is your background and how did you choose this career?

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Math, so I thought I would be a Software Engineer. After working as a Software Engineer for two years, I decided the 9 to 5 (or 9 to 9) routine was not for me, and started a home based business. I have had my own businesses since 1990, and was looking for something new when my son brought home a book about LEGO bricks from school. I was amazed at what could be built, and researched the idea of a LEGO business heavily. It looked like the perfect business for me because LEGO bricks were by far my favorite toy growing up, my son loved playing with them, and I am definitely still a kid at heart!
